As you have probably seen I exclusively use butter for my recipes. You will never see me call for margarine or “oleo”, as my folks used to call it.

There are many reasons, the most important one is flavor. Don’t believe me? Make two batches of Rice Kripspy Treats, one with butter and one with oleo. Then give them a taste test. I’m willing to bet that everybody likes the batch made with butter. Unless, o course, they are the people who prefer Miracle Whip to Mayonnaise.
But most of all I have found 20 reasons why butter is better thanks to Donna Gates and her Body Ecology website.
1. Butter is rich in the most easily absorb able form of Vitamin A necessary for thyroid and adrenal health.
2. Contains lauric acid, important in treating fungal infections and candida.
3. Contains lecithin, essential for cholesterol metabolism.
4. Contains anti-oxidants that protect against free radical damage.
5. Has anti-oxidants that protect against weakening arteries.
6. Is a great source of Vitamins E and K.
7. Is a very rich source of the vital mineral selenium.
8. Saturated fats in butter have strong anti-tumor and anti-cancer properties.
9. Butter contains conjugated linoleic acid, which is a potent anti-cancer agent, muscle builder, and immunity booster
10. Vitamin D found in butter is essential to absorption of calcium.
11. Protects against tooth decay.
12. Is your only source of an anti-stiffness factor, which protects against calcification of the joints.
13. Anti-stiffness factor in butter also prevents hardening of the arteries, cataracts, and calcification of the pineal gland.
14. Is a source of Activator X, which helps your body absorb minerals.
15. Is a source of iodine in highly absorbable form.
16. May promote fertility in women.9
17. Is a source of quick energy, and is not stored in our bodies adipose tissue.
18. Cholesterol found in butterfat is essential to children’s brain and nervous system development.
19. Contains Arachidonic Acid (AA) which plays a role in brain function and is a vital component of cell membranes.
20. Protects against gastrointestinal infections in the very young or the elderly.
But most of all, if you are any kind of chef who cares about the flavor of your food you will always use butter. Well unless, of course, you use lard. Oh Oh! Almost forgot, if your from the south there is always bacon grease.
Hey Chef,
Don’t make fun of people who like Miracle Whip. It’s my dad’s fault. That’s what he liked on his sandwiches and that’s what we got.

Yeah, That’s how I learned to hate it.
Yes I prefer butter and won’t touch the margarine or oleo BUT, I must say that I prefer the miracle whip,,,,stems back to when I started eating my favorite sandwich (banana, tomatoe and miracle whip) you have to use the whip on it or it just doesn’t taste right..you should try one and I also must admit that I use bacon grease for some things, guess it’s the hillbilly in me.
Love your site!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I guess it’s OK this one time. And One Time Only ;^)
